Biography

Taner Etkin was born in Poli (Paphos) on 10 December 1943. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Affairs, Department of Finance and Economics. He served as the Minister of Economy and Finance between 1968 and 1971. He was assigned as Private Secretariat of President Rauf R. Denktaş in 1971 and as the Undersecretary of the Presidency in 1978. He attended language courses in the United Kingdom.

In 1993 early general elections he was elected as Democrat Party MP for Lefkoşa and served as the Minister of Internal Affairs until 18 January 1995. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence between 16 August 1996 and 30 December 1998.

He speaks English. He is married and has two sons.
